Behind the rear shock absorber (and spring) there was also a problem. 25% of the spring is supported by a support system, keeping the spring in place. That part was totally eaten away. To replace that with solid metal we had to free up some space. We removed the shock absorber, compromised the spring and detached the anti roll support beam. After that released the sping bit by bit and removed that as well. The anti roll support beam broke down so we replaced it, re-using the rubbers. I took the opportunity to treat the rear-carrying arm with a mixture of petroleum/oil/tectyl (equal parts), of course after removing loose rust. A really nice experience. Almost clear Covered in tectyl, looking as good as new!!!

The rust ghost visited the car before I put it aside. So now I got some repair work to do. Here you can see how much rusted away. This was after (partial) cleaning. Rusted away and cleaned

In this cold winter I noticed the back of the car sliding in rotary intersections. I though at first because of the ice and snow but later on I also slipped in temperatures above zero with rain. It appeared that the rear brake cylinders were leaking. It seems to be a once in a 5 year job. The garage pointed out that the rear brake cylinder needed some attention. It was not running as smooth as it should. Also the guiding busses were replaced (where brake cylinder levelers are attached to rear lower suspension).

Another repair which was not nice to have in the midle of the (cold) winter. The heating blower motor gave up on me. There was no way to revive it. The motor had to come all the way from Paris in the bad wheater conditinos, that's why I had to drive almost 1 month in the car of my neighbours. The fix was easy, although the heating engine resistance needed a cleanup before it worked again.

A Renault 25 forum member helped me to install a new head gasket. Together with that we also replaced the water pump, crankshaft front oil seal, and the timing belt + other belts. Furthermore the injection system was cleaned, the valves were set. After a long day we finished the job with the start of the motor. The next day I refitted the radiator and filled it again. Good for another 370k?

Ai ai ai, white smoke. After a stop during a trip from Belgium to Groningen the head gasket gave up. A big white plume of steam told me that. The Dutch Road assistance (ANWB) helped me refilling the system and for security reasons they guided me back to home the last kilometers. This was latently expected, it was a wishlist item!

New APK for my car. 2 small repairs: a clamp of the (in Dutch) stabilisatorstang was replaced (on both sides). Next to that a casket was replaced because it leaked. The garage noted that there is a lot of rust on my car. I have to do something about that. Last week I changed the bonnet, because my old bonnet was also rusted. Another planned repair is my front bumper and doorstep. The doorstep I might combine with a proper treatment of the bottom of my car.

Big one
Today I had to pay €714,00 to Garage Timmer in Groningen. They did a nice job on fixing my window rabbet (sponning). The window was broken a long time ago. But I already knew that there should be fixed more then only a window change. They had to cut out some of the rabbet and renew it. It also had to be painted.
furthermore I collected different parts which were placed during or after this repair: a better exhaust manifold and also new stripings (which I already bought in February this year. I book the costs at this point in time though. This is why the ammount is this high. The car looks better than ever!

1. changed the rotor and distributer cap

2. changed the motor for the temperature sensor termostat

3. changed all light bulbs in the dashboard

the first repair was easy. I did see some oil leakage there, that's a known issue. I'll fix that soon.

the second repair was not so easy. For a description of how to repair the little electronical engine click Here
this is a drawing of the device. It's the item with the G next to it: Climate control airflow engine
This is a sample of what happend to the old electric motor: Burned engine

Wow, big costs this time, but I can drive another year in safety. I have new permission by a new APK(MOT):
  • € 126 for a new rear brake pressure regulating valve
  • € 200 for fitting and material costs new brake pipes (7 metres) from front to backside of the car
  • € 229 for 2 new tires (Michelin 195/60 H 15 E3A)
Normally I would drive another year with this new APK but this time I'm going to invest in a few important items to extend the life of the car and for beauty reasons too (bumper, doors, bonnet, splashboard parts, tailgate, rims and maybe airco parts...)

Today EPS installed a new exhaust system under my car. From the cross damper up till the last part. Please let me know if there is a better expression for this! So the total length is again replaced as it was almost 3 years ago. But this time, it's going to last at least 6 but most likely 10 years! It was not cool to see that the last exhaustdamper fell off somewhere on the Dutch roads. I hope I didn't scare or hurt anyone.
Next todo is a bit of welding on the body work. EPS also indicated that the right rear break needs attention. I'll go to the car shop tomorrow.

    2. Catalytic converter (It is again causing troubles) like last year
    3. New Alternator(I regular see my dashboard "flashing") (de dynamo)

    5. Optional; fuel filter (read in Haynes that it should be renewed every 60.000km)
    6. New spark plugs (read in Haynes that one should renew them every 10.000km)
    7. New radiator (cooling especially in the summer isn't good enough and I haven't done anything since I bought the car besides refilling)
    8. Something with the heating system. It doesn't work in a proper way. I found some info at the Renault 25 Forum, click here for more detailed info.

    10. Some little rust spots? (one at the drivers door at the bottom, a little one at the in/underside of the bonnet(motorkap)

One problem I had at that moment is that my Display didn't show how hard I drove, nor did it show how many RPM my motor made and the display of petrol and KM's is also not present. I changed my dashboard with a second handed one. I started june 1 2001 with 173.970 kilometres on that clock. From this date I give the current (c) and the "should be"(s) kilometres. Between my last recorded and the new dashboard only 3 months of history is lost. I estimate the lost km's at 400 max. That is little because I couldn't read important things on my dashboard.
